Pearson, who formerly served under Governors Evan Bayh, Frank O’Bannon, and Joe Kernan as Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture, has campaigned heavily on expanding and protecting voting rights within Indiana while ensuring that Hoosier have confidence in our voting systems.

Raised on his family’s grain and livestock farm in Grant County, Pearson graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1964 and received an M.S. in education at Ball State University and finished a doctorate in educational administration in 2004. He announced his candidacy for Secretary of State earlier this year, just prior to the June Democratic convention.

“We are very proud to have Joe Pearson as our candidate for Secretary of State,” stated Randy Stumler, Chairman of the Floyd County Democratic Party. He added, “Joe represents Hoosier values and appreciates the struggles of the average citizen.”

During his distinguished career, Pearson served sixteen years on the Blackford County School Board, including several terms as board president. At the state level, Joe served as president of the Indiana School Boards Association. He also served as president of the Indiana Soybean Growers Association and was one of Indiana's representatives on the board of the American Soybean Association. Joe has also served with the board of directors of the USDA's Fund for Rural America Animal Waste Group; the Center for Agricultural Science and Heritage; the Indiana State Fair; the Indiana FFA Foundation and the Indiana Agricultural Leadership Institute. He currently serves on the Indiana 4 H Foundation Board of Directors.

“Having a statewide candidate such as Joe Pearson attend our local event is a special privilege,” said Stumler. “It shows that the state candidates value Floyd County and Southern Indiana and will make our area a priority in their administrations,” he added.

The August 24th reception and fundraiser will be held at the home of Michelle and Douglas England, 1738 State Road 111, in New Albany beginning at 5:30 p.m. Those interested in attending should contact Floyd County Democratic Party Treasurer Adam T. Dickey at (812)-948-2438.
